A.4.2.2 Installation from CD-ROM

CD-ROM installation is available only for 32-bit Windows. The CD-ROM contains all Acucorp products for the 32-bit Windows environment.

If Windows is not already running, start Windows.

Insert the Acucorp CD-ROM.

Run setup. Click on Start and select Run.

In the entry box, type:

d:setup (use the drive letter of your CD drive)

Follow the instructions on the screen. You will be required to provide a license file. License files are distributed on a separate diskette from Acucorp.

During the installation procedure you will be prompted to specify an installation directory, or to accept the default location. Do not specify a directory name that has embedded spaces. Embedded spaces prevent the PATH variable from being properly set and can cause other problems under Windows.

You will also be asked for a component to install. If you select "Custom" you may choose which products you want to install. If you select the Professional Edition or select "Custom," and you select Acu4GL, you will be asked to install one of the available Acu4GL interfaces.

You will also have the opportunity to direct the installation procedure to create an ACUCOBOL folder and to add the locations of ACUCOBOL executables to your PATH. If you choose to add the locations of ACUCOBOL executables to your PATH, be sure to reboot your machine when the installation process is complete, to cause the new definition to take effect.

If you install ACUCOBOL-GT, you will be asked if you want to install the ACUCOBOL-GT plug-in. The plug-in allows you to run your ACUCOBOL-GT applications from a Web browser. You may choose to install the plug-in at a later time. If you choose to install the plug-in, you will be asked to designate which browsers you want to use with the plug-in.

If you install AcuServer or AcuConnect for Windows NT, you will be asked if you want to start AcuServer or AcuConnect now or later.

When installation is complete, you should find an icon named "Run Sample" in your ACUCOBOL-GT folder. Double-click this icon to execute the sample program tour. Tour provides an overview of product features and demonstrates how several of them work.

Double-click the icon for the READ_ME or RELEASE file to read technical notes about the product.

Please read the "READ_ME" and "RELEASE" files. The "READ_ME" file describes the files included with ACUCOBOL-GT. The "RELEASE" file (if present) describes changes to ACUCOBOL-GT that are not covered in the documentation.

AcuServer users: If you have installed a client-enabled runtime and plan to use AcuServer, you may need to define the "ACUCOBOL" configuration variable before you use AcuServer. This variable is used by the runtime to locate COBOL runtime extensions. For more information, see Book 4, Appendix H, "Configuration File Entries."
