A.4.2.1 Installation from diskette

If Windows is not already running, start Windows.

Insert the first Acucorp diskette and run setup.

For 16- bit Windows, go to the the Program Manager, pull down the File menu and choose Run. Under 32-bit Windows, click on Start and select Run.

In the entry box, type:

a:setup (or b:setup, if you're using the b: drive)

Follow the instructions on the screen. During the installation procedure you will be prompted to specify an installation directory, or to accept the default location. Do not specify a directory name that has embedded spaces. Embedded spaces prevent the PATH variable from being properly set and can cause other problems under Windows. You will also have an opportunity to direct the installation procedure to create an ACUCOBOL-GT program group and to add the location of ACUCOBOL-GT executables to your PATH. If you choose to add ACUCOBOL-GT to your PATH, be sure to reboot your machine when the installation process is complete in order to make the new definition take effect.

When installation is complete, you should find in your ACUCOBOL-GT program group or folder an icon named "Run Sample". Double-click this icon to execute the sample program tour. Tour provides an overview of product features and demonstrates how several of them work.

Double-click the icon for the READ_ME or RELEASE file to read technical notes about the product.

Please read the "READ_ME" and "RELEASE" files. The "READ_ME" file describes the files included with ACUCOBOL-GT. The "RELEASE" file (if present) describes changes to ACUCOBOL-GT that are not covered in the printed documentation.

AcuServer users: If you have installed a client-enabled runtime and plan to use AcuServer, you may need to define the "ACUCOBOL" configuration variable before you use AcuServer. This variable is used by the runtime to locate COBOL runtime extensions. For more information, see Appendix H, "Configuration File Entries."
