4.2 The Server Access File

The server access file contains a database of access records that determine which machines and which users are allowed to use AcuServer. Depending on the construction of these records, the server access file can provide all levels of system access from very permissive to very restrictive.

AcuServer will not start if the server access file cannot be found. On UNIX systems, the access file is named "/etc/AcuAccess" by default. The ownerships and permissions on the server access file must be specified correctly. See Section 4.3 Ownerships and Permissions .

To create or modify the server access file, log onto a UNIX server as the superuser and type:

acuserve -access

For a description of AcuServer system security, and instructions regarding the creation and maintenance of the server access file, see Chapter 8, System Security.
