


This chapter is designed to get you up and running with AcuServer as quickly as possible. Only those steps that are essential to basic installation, configuration and use are included. No attempt is made to provide a detailed context for each action. If you use this guide, we recommend that, after you complete your basic installation, you acquaint yourself with the entire contents of this manual.
Quick-Start Checklist
1. Install TCP/IP networking software.
2. Install AcuServer on the server. See Section 3.2 Software Installation on Windows.
3. Decide how users will access resources on the server machine (individual accounts or group accounts). Section 3.3 Setting Up Accounts shows the tradeoffs.
4. Create the user accounts. Grant user rights, including access to the server from the network.
5. Edit the AcuAccess file on the server. This maps access from the user's machine (or user ID) to his or her Windows NT or Windows 2000 logon ID. "acuserve -access" prompts for:
6. Create or modify the directory structure that will be used by AcuServer clients. Ensure that user accounts have FULL CONTROL access to the directory. If files already exist, modify the permissions for each file to give the users FULL CONTROL access.
7. Test your setup. Type "ping acuserver_host" from a client to verify TCP/IP setup. Check your FILE-PREFIX (see Section 3.4 System Configuration).
