AcuServer is shipped on CD-ROM or diskette. The file "READ_ME.srv" describes the contents of the media.
To install AcuServer on a Windows NT or Windows 2000 server:
1. Install and configure TCP/IP before installing AcuServer.
2. Log onto your NT server using the Administrator account or an account that belongs to the Administrators group.
D:\setup.exe
replacing "D" with the device designation of your CD-ROM drive. Follow the instructions on the screen, entering your product code and product key when prompted.
4. The setup program (at your option) creates a sample Start Menu folder and then installs and starts the Windows NT/2000 services needed to run AcuServer.
Please note that you can use all valid "-start" options when installing acuserve as a service. These options are stored so that the service will use them when starting.
The Start Menu folder contains icons that can run the various programs needed for AcuServer, along with icons to display the release notes and the AcuServer configuration file.
If you choose to start AcuServer during the installation process, a DOS window is displayed, showing the status of the Windows NT/2000 services being started or restarted automatically. You may see some error messages if the Windows services are not already installed and running; these can be ignored.
There is nothing on the AcuServer distribution media to install on the client machines. To install the ACUCOBOL-GT runtime on the client, see your runtime documentation. Then proceed to the next section, System Configuration.
A Graphical User Interface for Windows NT/2000 Servers
Included on your installation media is a COBOL program called "NTSAcuSv.acu." This program displays a graphical user interface (GUI) based on AcuServer's command line requirements. By running the "NTSAcuSv.acu" program, users of AcuServer on Windows NT and Windows 2000 servers can use a GUI to start and stop AcuServer on any port, monitor status, install and remove a Windows service, and more. The "NTSAcuSv" program is installed automatically when you install AcuServer. For more information on using the graphical user interface program to run AcuServer on Windows NT or Windows 2000, open the on-line help file "NTSAcuSv.hlp" installed in the same directory where the ACUCOBOL-GT software is installed, for example, c:\Acucorp\Acucbl5xxx\Acugt\Bin (where xxx is the version number).
