ACUCOBOL-GT is available on a wide range of machines. In this manual, these machines are distinguished by their operating system. Currently there are seven classes of supported operating environments:

MS-DOS: 386 (Extended) MS-DOS(R) or 386 (Extended) PC-DOS version 3.0 or later, or any other system that can run 386 (Extended) DOS programs as a subset. Microsoft Windows and Windows for Workgroups 3.1 or later. Note that 16-bit Standard DOS is not supported.

Windows: Microsoft Windows including Windows 3.1 or later, Windows 95, and Windows NT 3.1 or later.

OS/2: OS/2(R) running in full-screen mode. Unless otherwise specified in this manual, all references to MS-DOS also apply to OS/2.

UNIX: Virtually any UNIX(R)-style operating system (versions III, V, and Berkeley forms supported) including Ultrix(R), XENIX(R), and the DEC Alpha running OSF/1 for AXP(TM).

MPE/iX: The MPE/iX(R) operating system.

VMS: The VMS(TM) operating system.

Differences among the operating environments are detailed in the appropriate sections of the manual. Appendix M also provides details about unique features of specific operating systems.
