Q.1 Introduction to HP e3000 COBOL Compatibility

ACUCOBOL-GT provides a compatibility option with HP e3000 COBOL. ACUCOBOL-GT and HP e3000 COBOL share a common core consisting of ANSI standard COBOL. In addition, a set of the HP e3000 extensions to the ANSI standard are supported in ACUCOBOL-GT via the "-Cp" compiler option. The "-Cp" option (set either on the command line or in the CBLFLAGS environment string) allows the ACUCOBOL-GT compiler to be compatible with HP e3000 COBOL. In this mode, ACUCOBOL-GT accepts features of HP e3000 COBOL that it does not otherwise accept.

Note: HP e3000 COBOL compatibility is available only with Version 5.2 (or later) of ACUCOBOL-GT.

Note: The specific version of HP e3000 COBOL with which ACUCOBOL-GT is compatible is defined in "HP COBOL II/XL Reference Manual." Further references to "HP e3000 COBOL" in this appendix refer to HP COBOL II/XL.

Users of HP e3000 compatibility mode, in addition to HP e3000 COBOL support, gain the benefit of many useful ACUCOBOL-GT extensions (see Appendix B, section B.3 "Extensions" for a list of ACUCOBOL-GT extensions to the ANSI standard) and compatibility with a set of add-on tools (see the ACUCOBOL-GT User's Guide, Chapter 1, section 1.1 "Product Overview" for brief descriptions of the add-on tools).

Acucorp offers an integrated development environment (IDE) for COBOL called AcuBench(™). AcuBench extends and enhances the ACUCOBOL-GT compiler and runtime system with a powerful suite of GUI-based development tools for COBOL. With AcuBench you can develop and maintain your COBOL applications in an integrated, developer-friendly Microsoft Windows environment and deploy them on your HP e3000 systems.
