2.5.2 Setting Up the Host Name

The runtime system on each client machine passes the client hostname to the server machine.

DOS

On DOS clients, the runtime uses the host name that is in the PC/TCP host's file located in the root directory where PC/TCP was installed.

Windows 95/98/ME

On Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows ME clients, the runtime uses the host name that is set in the Control Panel in the following menus:

Control Panel/Network/Configuration

Select TCP/IP, then choose:

Properties/DNS Configuration/Host

The name you specify for the "Host" entry is the one that the runtime uses.

Windows NT/2000

On Windows NT and Windows 2000 clients:

Start/Settings/Control Panel/Network/Protocols

Select TCP/IP, then choose:

Properties/DNS/Host Name

The name you specify for the "Host Name" entry is the one that the runtime uses.

UNIX

On UNIX clients, the runtime uses the host name that is in the file "/etc/hosts".
