To add a data source name

To add a DSN to the ODBC Data Source Administrator, follow these steps.

Note: The following screens depict the ODBC Data Source setup on a Windows NT operating system. If you are using another operating system, your screens may vary.

1. From the Windows control panel, double-click the ODBC Data Sources icon. (On Windows NT systems, select Settings from the Start menu and then select Control Panel. On Windows 2000 systems, you can find the ODBC Manager under Start/Programs/Administrative Tools. On some systems, the icon may appear labeled as "32bit ODBC".)

The ODBC Data Source Administrator appears.

Note that there are three types of DSNs managed by the ODBC Data Source Administrator:

User DSN: The most common type of DSN that you and your users will create for use with AcuODBC. Stores information about how to connect to a specific data source. May only be used by the current user on the current machine.

System DSN: Like the User DSN, stores information about how to connect to a specific data source, but is available to all users on this machine, including NT services. Local to a computer, rather than dedicated to a user. The system, or any user having privileges, can use a data source set up with a system DSN.

Note: AcuODBC Datasource is a DSN for the sample data files included with AcuODBC.

File DSN: File-based data source that may be shared between all users that have the same drivers installed. Created automatically when you click OK, after creating a User DSN or System DSN, and used by many applications to connect to ODBC.

2. Select the User DSN, System DSN, or File DSN tab, and click Add.

3. From the Create New Data Source dialog box, select AcuODBC Driver, and then click Finish. (If "AcuODBC Driver" is not an option in the list box, you may need to reinstall AcuODBC on your system.)

The AcuODBC Configuration property sheet appears. Section 3.2 "Defining the Data Source" describes how to complete the first tab of this property sheet.
