F.2.2 Windows Installation Steps for the Acu4GL for DBMaker Product

This section instructs you to install Acu4GL for DBMaker on your Windows machine from either diskettes or CD-ROM. UNIX installation instructions can be found in section F.2.3 "UNIX Installation and Setup".

Contents of the medium

The READ_ME.DBM file on your media from Acucorp lists the files that are shipped with the product.

CD-ROM installation

Instructions for installing your Acu4GL product from the ACUCOBOL-GT Development Suite CD-ROM are contained on the "Acucorp Product Installation Getting Started" card that accompanied the product. Please refer to it for installing the ACUCOBOL-GT Development Suite, which includes Acu4GL.

Once the installation is complete, please refer to this appendix for setting up your Acu4GL product.

Installation of the Acu4GL product from a diskette

If DBMaker is not already on your system, install and configure DBMaker version 3.0 or later before you install Acu4GL for DBMaker.

To install Acu4GL for DBMaker on your machine:

1. Initiate Windows.

2. Insert the first Acucorp diskette.

3. Click Start and select Run.

4. On the command line, type:

a:setup (or b:setup, if you're using the b: drive)

then press <Enter> or click OK and follow the onscreen instructions.

Note: Be sure to enter your license code and key when prompted. For more information, see the Getting Started card.

Be sure to set up your DBMaker database as instructed in the DBMaker-supplied documentation, and then enter the database name in the configuration variable A-DBM-DATABASE as described in section F.3 "Configuration File Variables". If necessary, be sure to set A-DBM-PASSWD and A-DBM-LOGIN. Also set DEFAULT-HOST. See section F.3 "Configuration File Variables" for more information.

A note about relinking for Windows users

Relinking is not required for Windows users (but it is required for UNIX users and is explained in the next section). There are two ways for Windows users to access DBMaker--through a .DLL file detected at runtime, or by statically linking the object into the runtime. We very strongly suggest letting the runtime detect the .DLL file. If you need to relink, please contact Acucorp Technical Support for assistance.
