Oracle: Installation of the Windows 95/98/NT

Acu4GL for Oracle for 32-bit Windows

Acu4GL for Oracle for Windows 32-bit systems is a version 7.3.3 Oracle client application.  If you have a Windows 32-bit system and the version 7.3.3 Oracle client application installed, go to the installation sections (CD-ROM or diskettes) below.  The next section (Regarding Acu4GL for Oracle and the version 8.x Oracle client) does not apply to your situation.

Regarding Acu4GL for Oracle and the version 8.x Oracle client

If the Windows machine that you are installing Acu4GL on has the version 8.x Oracle client software installed, you will need to install some additional software.  The following steps will allow you to run the Acu4GL for Oracle runtime on Windows 32-bit systems that use Oracle 8 clients. The above steps will install the version 2.3.4 of Oracle's SQL*Net onto your PC.  This should not have any effect on applications that are based upon Oracle 8.

After you have installed the above software, you will need to create a database alias for use with Acu4GL for Oracle.  Do not use the Oracle Net8 Assistant, because this would not provide the correct type of connection for Acu4GL for Oracle.  You should use the "SQL Net Easy Configuration" utility instead.  The custom install process does not set up a Windows shortcut for this operation.  You will need to run from the bin subdirectory of where you installed your Oracle 8 client software or set up a shortcut yourself.

For example, if you installed your Oracle 8 client software in the C:\ORAWIN95 directory, then open a DOS prompt and go to the directory C:\ORAWIN95\BIN.

Then issue the following command:

Orainst /install /prd c:\orawin95\network\cfg\

This will bring up the SQL Net Easy Configuration utility.  You may now set up a database alias for use with Acu4GL as described above.

To install the Acu4GL interface, perform the following steps:

CD-ROM Installation

Instructions for installing your Acu4GL interface from the ACUCOBOL-GT Development Suite CD-ROM are contained on the "Acucorp Product Installation Getting Started" card that accompanied the product. Please refer to it for installing the ACUCOBOL-GT Development Suite, which includes Acu4GL. Once the installation is complete, please refer to this appendix for setting up your Acu4GL interface.

Installation of the Acu4GL interface from a diskette

If Oracle is not already on your system, install and configure Oracle version 7.3.3 before you install Acu4GL for Oracle.

To install Acu4GL for Oracle on your machine:

1. Initiate Windows 95/98/NT.

2. Insert the first Acucorp diskette.

3. Click on Start and select Run.

4. On the Command Line, type:

a:setup (or b:setup, if you are using the b: drive) Then press [enter] or click OK. This begins the auto-install process.

5. At the Welcome window read the information provided by Acucorp, then select Next to continue or Cancel if you do not want to install Acu4GL.

6. At the Registration window, enter the Name and Company registration information and select Next.

7. Confirm the Registration information in the Registration Confirmation window by selecting Yes or No. Selecting No returns you to the previous window.

8. Choose the destination for the interface in the Destination window. The Browse button can be used to find or name a new directory. Select Next when you have named the destination.

If you created a new directory, you are asked to confirm the name and path. Select Next when you have confirmed it.

9. The Create Folder window asks if you want to make a program folder icon for the Acu4GL components. Select Yes or No. If Yes, you are given an opportunity to name the Folder.

10. The Modify PATH window asks if you want to add the Acu4GL Bin directory to your path. Select Yes or No. Yes allows you to be able to run the executables from any directory.

11. The Start Copy window, displays the settings you selected, and asks you to verify them. Select Next to continue, or use the Back button to make changes to previous windows.

12. The copy procedure begins, and is marked by two copy progress boxes.

13. Change diskettes as directed.

14. When the copying is finished, the program tells you of this via the Complete window. Click the OK button.

The ACUCOBOL-GT license file for the runtime (wrun32.alc) and the license file for the Acu4GL interface to Oracle (wrun32.olc) must be located in the same directory as the runtime executable. If you rename your runtime executable, be sure to rename your license files to use the same base name, with the extensions unchanged. For example, if you rename your runtime to be myprog, then the license file for the Acu4GL interface for Oracle should be renamed myprog.olc, and the license file for the runtime should be renamed myprog.alc.
